Independent Presidential candidate General Henry Tumukunde has revealed that there is so much information that the opposition leaders have not revealed to the public concerning their meeting following the arrest of fellow presidential aspirant Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu alias Bobi Wine.

While speaking to a reporter on Voice of Kigezi Radio Station in Kabale district via a telephone call, General Tumukunde vehemently spoke against the ‘complete disregard of the law’ by security operatives and the militarization of politics by Candidate Museveni.

“What the public needs to know is that there is a lot we have not disclosed to the media about our meeting concerning the unfair treatment by Police,” Tumukunde said.

Five of the 10 presidential candidates met and agreed to have a common response to the arrest, brutalization and harassment aimed at them by security personnel.

In a joint statement signed by Maj. Gen Mugisha Muntu Gregg of the Alliance for National Transformation, Norbert Mao, of the Democratic Party, Henry Tumukunde an independent and representatives of FDC’s Patrick Amuriat Oboi and NUP’s Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, the candidates said that working together was the wise thing to do to defeat President Museveni.

“We are concerned that the Electoral Commission has been overrun by security agencies and are no longer in charge of the elections. The so-called COVID-19 rules are subject to the interpretation of partisan security operatives. There is a clear contradiction in the manner in which the COVID-19 rules are being enforced,” the joint statement reads in part.

Bobi Wine, who was not able to make a physical attendance was represented by Dr. Lina Zedriga, while Wasswa Biriggwa, the chairman of the FDC signed on behalf of Amuriat.

The candidates also agreed to avoid attacking each other to deny their common opponent the opportunity to divide them while campaigning.
