PROFILE: Martin Ssejjemba, the 28 Year Old Mpigi District LCV Chairman Elect

On Wednesday 20th, January, 2021, Martin Ssejjemba was overwhelmingly voted as the new Mpigi District LCV Chairman making him one of the youngest top bosses in the Country.

The 28 year old National Unity Platform (NUP) flag bearer polled 29,177 votes to beat the incumbent and National Resistance Movement (NRM) boss Peter Mutuluuza and three other contenders.

NRM’s Mutuluuza got 8,174 votes, Godfrey Ssematimba (an Independent) got 3,850 votes while Frank Kawooya (another Independent) gathered 1,500 votes and Fred Male of the Democratic Party (DP) got 4,176 votes.

He is the first person from an opposition political party to secure a win at the District’s top seat. His party, NUP, also secured the most seats for directly elected councillors.

Who is Ssejjemba?

He was born in 1992 to Mr. Posiano Ssendegeya and Proscovia Nalubwama of Nsangwa Village, Buwama Town Council in Mpigi District.

He attended Uganda Martyrs Primary School in Buwama Town Council and later joined St. Balikuddembe Mitala-Maria Secondary School for his O-level certificate in 2010.

In 2012, he completed his A-level from Caltec Academy in Kikoni, Kampala from where he joined Makerere University in 2013.

Ssejjemba graduated from the Ivory Tower (Makerere) with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mathematics and Geological Engineering.

Plans for his People!

The 28 year old says he is prepared for what he calls “the big task” ahead and insists that he is ready to serve the electorate that entrusted him with power.

“People need services and I have come to offer unique service and leadership to the District and the people of Mpigi.” Ssejjemba says.
