The Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga is tussling it out with the Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) party vice president Salaam Musumba for the seat of the Kamuli Municipality Woman Member of Parliament.

Kadaga has been Kamuli District Woman MP for over two decades and Kamuli voters seem not to have had enough of her. However, unlike previous contests, next year’s election seems to be tight as she has garnered all her efforts to retain the seat she has occupied since 1989.

She has this week been campaigning in Kamuli where she has covered areas like Namwendwa and Kagogo among others canvassing for votes to extend her term.

While speaking to the people of Kamuli today, 3rd December 2020, Kadaga promised them to procure a sugarcane crushing machine to add to the one she already gave them.

“We got a sugarcane crushing machine for you and we are also planning on getting another one for Luuka. This will increase production and also the income that you will earn from your sugarcane,” said Kadaga.

Kadaga added that Busoga sub-region plays a huge part in the politics of the country and it therefore needs someone strong like her to represent them in parliament.

On the other hand, Salaam Musumba has traversed areas like Namwendwa and Namasagali amid rain pours where she says she’s on a mission to transform Kamuli for the better. Musumba said that there is a huge disconnect between leaders and the common man and she hopes to change that once she’s elected.

“I know a lot about how the politics in Uganda works. It is not hearsay, I’ve been witness to most of these things: the political tricks and the political disasters,” Musumba said as she told the voters why they should vote for her.

Kadaga and Musumba are standing alongside Bridget Babirye the National Unity Platform (NUP) flag bearer of the area. Babirye has promised to spearhead the empowerment of women in Kamuli once she’s elected come January 2021.
