Independent presidential candidate General Henry Tumukunde was yesterday 11th November denied access to campaign in Kisoro district by security officers of the police force.
Tumukunde, who was completing his campaign tour in Kigezi region yesterday was in the morning blocked by security officers from entering Kisoro district on grounds that he was scheduled to be there on Tuesday.
Tumukunde bashed the claims by police stating that their acts were motivated by political means seeing as there was no other presidential candidate campaigning in Kisoro district that same day hence no possibility of a clash.
However, the decision by police to block Tumukunde was welcomed by many political leaders and residents of Kisoro stating that Police did them a favor showing their frustrations with the way the general conducted himself while in office as the security minister.
They say that Tumukunde, while minister harassed Kayihura who is a resident of Nyakabande sub-county, Kisoro district.
”Tumukunde is shameless to attempt to get to Kisoro to solicit for support yet he knows how he treated our son Kayihura. He should learn to respect people for them to respect him too. Kisoro people are not toilet papers, diapers or serviettes,” Abel Bizimana, Kisoro district LC5 chairman said.
Many more residents expressed similar opinions about the former minister.
Vincent Kizito Habyarimana, a voter from Kanaba sub-county says that Tumukunde should not bother looking for support in Kisoro before apologizing for harassing Kayihura. He says Tumukunde’s hate against Kayihura also contributed to his arrest.
