The Uganda Wildlife Conservation Education Centre (UWEC) has received a major boost as regards the welfare of animals in the zoo and their support staff in the hard hit times of their sector.

Tourism, Uganda’s largest foreign exchange earner has arguably been the most hit sector of production in terms of revenue generation after the world went down with the outbreak of the novel coronavirus.

As a result, UWEC’s Non Tax Revenue got from their thousands of visitors every year was acutely affected due to movement restrictions brought about by the pandemic and measures put in place to check its spread.

Good news reaching our desk however, indicates that after several calculated appeals to the government, stakeholders and the general public, the Centre has secured close to Shs 800M in cash and kind donations.

James Musinguzi, the UWEC Excecutive Director, has told the press that the government of Uganda availed Shs 746m to support the Centre in its operations, with the rest from their various partners and well wishers.
