Kampala, Uganda – Anthony Asiimwe is making final rounds to cement his bid for Vice President of the prestigious Uganda Law Society (ULS) in the 2024 elections. Presenting a compelling manifesto that aims to reshape and invigorate the legal profession in Uganda, Asiimwe – an Associate Partner at Pearl Advocates and Solicitors has a vision centered on strategic collaborations, advocacy, and innovation.

Insiders of his campaign have told The Ugandan Wire that Asiimwe seeks to enhance the lives of ULS members and benefit the wider community using this manifesto. According to Moses Kiyemba, one of his campaign movers, Asiimwe’s candidature envisions a thriving legal profession characterized by professionalism and inclusivity.

“Our mission emphasizes empowering members through excellence in legal practice and advocacy for the rule of law, human rights, and access to justice. Our commitment is to create a supportive environment for all legal practitioners, ensuring that every member has the resources and opportunities they need to succeed,” he stated.

At the heart of Asiimwe’s campaign are core values of advocacy, integrity, collaboration, inclusivity, and innovation. His candidature believes that these principles are essential in building a legal community that not only serves its members but also actively engages with and contributes to society.

The key Goals and Objectives that The Ugandan Wire has noted in his manifesto are;

  1. Enhancing ULS relevance where he aims to ensure ULS remains a vital body for its members. His action plan includes forging strategic partnerships and advocating for inclusive programs that reflect the diverse needs of all members.
  2. Promoting human rights where he professes commitment to upholding the rule of law, and plans to engage in public interest litigation and advocacy for policies that align with the members’ needs and promote human rights.
  3. Improving access to justice where Asiimwe intends to mobilize resources to sustain legal aid and pro bono initiatives, ensuring that justice is accessible to all.
  4. Advancing professional development by implementing mentorship programs and advocating for continuous legal education, Asiimwe aims to foster the professional growth of all members, particularly young lawyers.

In a telephone interview with The Ugandan Wire, Asiimwe pledged commitment to accountability and transparency saying that’s what will guide him in ensuring that his decisions are clear and beneficial to all ULS members. He also vowed to provide comprehensive support and development opportunities for all ULS members.

“We are dedicated to ensuring every member’s voice is heard and their needs represented in policy discussions,” he added. His campaign slogan encapsulates this promise: “Reliability, Availability, Ability, Dependability – Asiimwe Anthony for Vice President ULS.” He said.

As the election approaches, Asiimwe’s vision and commitment to transforming the legal landscape in Uganda resonate strongly with many within the legal community. His campaign promises not only to advocate for ULS members but to create a lasting impact on the profession as a whole.
