President Yoweri Museveni has reshuffled the army leadership, replacing the Army spokesperson Brig. General Richard Karemire with Brig. General Flavia Byekwaso. Byekwaso becomes the first female spokesperson of the Uganda Peoples Defence Forces (UPDF). Brig Karemire had replaced Lt. Col Paddy Ankunda in January 2017. The ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party Electoral Commission Chairman, Dr Tanga Odoi has announced that the exercise to pick the nomination forms which was supposed to end yesterday on 30th July 2020 has been extended to Monday 3rd August 2020. The Minister of Local Government Raphael Magyezi has unceremoniously withdrawn from the Igara West parliamentary race. Mr Magyezi, who was prominent for moving a motion to amend Article 102(b) of the constitution has decided not to contest again in the upcoming 2021 General Election. The Parliament of Uganda has approved the creation of 46 new constituencies raising the total number of constituencies in the country to 353 from 296. The creation of these new constituencies was as a result of a motion for resolution of Parliament under Article 179(4) of the 1995 Constitution to create new constituencies tabled by the Minister of Local Government Rapheal Magyezi.
