Rtd. Major General Mugisha Muntu, the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) Presidential Candidate has decried the increasing cases of land grabbing in Bunyoro Sub-Region.
General Muntu’s concern came as he addressed a campaign meeting at Wairagaza Trading Centre in Kyangwali Sub-County Kikuube District.
Muntu was yesterday in Kikuube and Hoima districts canvassing for support. Muntu said that many people were forcefully displaced in many parts of Bunyoro and some of them were forced to go and live in internally displaced camps.
“What is causing land grabbing is lack of equality in this country. Those with money think they are better than those without it. Having money does not give you any power by law to displace someone without it.” Muntu said.
Kikuube and Hoima have seen a rise in the cases of land evictions, mostly in Kyangwali, Bugambe, Kabwoya and Kyizilanffumbi sub counties in Kikuube, as well as Buhanika and Kyigolobya in Hoima district.
Muntu notes that this problem has been mostly perpetuated by senior government officials and security officials due to their need for money and he promised the people of Kikuube to deal with the perpetuators once he’s elected.
“We will sort them out completely without compromise,” Muntu added.
Police blocked the Alliance for National Transformation (ANT) from accessing their venue for their campaign processions in Hoima District. General Muntu was scheduled to hold his rally at Booma Grounds near Hoima Central Police station.
However the Police blocked the team of ANT led by Kasese Woman Member of Parliament (MP) Winnie Kizza from accessing the venue. Albertine Regional Police Spokesperson Julius Hakiza said the police and the army had already booked the venue for their activities.
