Musician Moses Ssali, Bebe Cool, a renown supporter of President Museveni and the National Resistance Movement (NRM) has come out to condemn actions of the majority NRM MPs who have accepted to share 10Bn shillings as their COVID-19 facilitation money.
The money, that MPs argue is meant to help them in their activities as Parliament while battling the pandemic has attracted attention of the public, with majority Ugandans wondering why the MPs are rewarding themselves yet everyone else is giving back to the COVID-19 taskforce.
“I am so disgusted by the NRM Members of Parliament on the decision to accept the 20 million Ugandan shillings in the name of sensitization of COVID-19 in your constituencies. You completely disregarded the feelings of the Ugandans who for sure are suffering in this period.” Bebe Cool said.
The Wire Wire singer suggested that had the MPs offered to buy posho and beans for their vulnerable constituents, he would support them because 20M (the amount each MP is getting) would feed 450 families.
“20M (for sensitization) plus 25M (from your one month salary) equals 45 million shillings which is way less, considering how much you spend during campaigns. These are the times when you should side with all your people and not your pockets. These are the times when you should sacrifice income from your businesses to sustain/support a good number of your voters.” Bebe Cool added.
He appealed to the MPs to reconsider their actions with the money and use it to benefit their constituents who are having a hard time surviving in this era. The singer cited especially people suffering tuberculosis and HIV.
“As a comrade who has always gone looking for NRM votes from these same voters, you deny me the platform to support you. I feel so heartbroken with this decision made by parliament despite the fact that there are more things that indeed go wrong but we try and understand because of the pre-existing conditions of our economy and country.”
