The Uganda Red Cross Society’s burial team has today laid to rest a Ugandan suspected to have died of the novel coronavirus (COVID-19).

According to reports we have obtained from the International Humanitarian Organisation, the deceased died from the neighbouring South Sudan capital, Juba.

The late was a male Ugandan Citizen who according to medical reports and post mortem died of “respiratory” related complications – a key symptom of COVID-19.

“Our safe & dignified burial team has today conducted a safe burial for one male adult who died from Juba on 30.06.2020 to respiratory failure.” Uganda Red Cross said in a statement.

The deceased’s body was picked by the Red Cross team from Elegu POE & buried today at Nambulu village, Namunsi parish, Nakaloke sub county in Mbale district.

Uganda has 1,000 confirmed cases of COVID-19, 908 recoveries and 0 (zero) deaths at the moment. However, a handful of Ugandans in the diaspora have succumbed to the deadly virus.
