The Uganda Police headquarters in Kampala will be temporarily closed for the next three (3) days after one of the senior officers Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIGP) Asan Kasingye tested positive for COVID-19 on Sunday.
While addressing the media in Kampala on Monday, the Police Force mouth piece Fred Enanga, said the three-day closure will allow for COVID-19 disinfection and testing of personnel for the virus.
He said the National headquarters and the National Command Centre will resume operations immediately after the disinfection and fumigation.
The force has been carrying out random testing of officers and Enanga said the exercise would continue because of actively being in touch with the public.
The Police spkesperson further says that the temporary closure will enable the process of decontamination, fumigation and testing of personnel at the headquarters for COVID-19.
He also noted that the institution has been equipped with more Personal Protective Equipment since they have to deal with public on the daily just like health workers.
Over the weekend, 150 prisoners and staff of Amuru prison tested positive for the deadly coronavirus and the prison has been also temporary closed.
