A Rwandan opposition politician, Seif Bamporiki, has been shot dead in Cape Town, South Africa in what appears to be a planned event.

Seif Bamporiki was the coordinator for The Rwanda National Congress (RNC), an opposition political party in Rwanda.

The Rwanda National Congress (RNC) is Rwandan opposition group in exile, established in the United States on 12 December 2010.

Prominent founders included Dr. Theogene Rudasingwa, Gen. Kayumba Nyamwasa, Gerald Gahima, and Patrick Karegeya. Karegeya was murdered on 31 December 2013. Rudasingwa and Gahima have since left the party.

It is alleged that the businessman, who sold beds, was called for delivery in Nyanga where his gunman waited to fire a shot through his car window. Seif’s killers also fled the scene with his mobile phones and wallets.

The supposed customer, who had led him to Nyanga for the delivery of beds, had left him for about 15 minutes within which he was killed.

South Africa and Rwanda had recently restored full diplomatic relations after an attempted assassination of former Rwandan army chief Kayumba Nyamwasa, who was accused by his country for using South Africa as a base for his subversive activities.

The Rwanda National Congress spokesperson, Ettiene Mutabazi, said that it was too early to speculate why and who was behind Seif’s killing.
