Paul Rusesabagina, a notorious Rwandan fugitive wanted for a score of crimes against humanity and whom the movie Hotel Rwanda was based on has finally been arrested.

Accordinfg to the Rwanda Investigation Bureau (RIB), he is currently detained at Remera Police Station while his case file is being processed in accordance with Rwandan criminal procedure.

“The RIB presented the high profile catch before the media in the capital city Kigali. He arrived at the press venue aboard a detainee van. He disembarked from the van but in handcuffs clad in a clean suit and face masked.” A contributor of The Ugandan Wire in Rwanda said.

According to the RIB, Mr. Rusesabagina was arrested “through international cooperation”.

Rusesabagina is the founder of the ‘National Liberation Forces (FLN)’, an armed terrorist organisation under his Rwandan Movement for Democratic Change (MRCD).

Rwanda is currently holding and trying dozens of FLN members for war crimes and other violations committed on Rwandan territory including murder. Callixte Nsabimana one of the FLN leaders is undergoing trial in Rwanda.

The former motor mouthed FLN  rebel leader is also charged with kidnapping, spreading false information or propaganda aimed at undermining the Rwandan government abroad, denying genocide, armed robbery, arson, engaging with foreign nations with a view to waging war, and forgery, among others.

More famously however, Rusesabagina is a Rwandan humanitarian who, while working as a manager at the Hôtel des Mille Collines in Kigali, hid and protected 1,268 Hutu and Tutsi refugees from the Interahamwe militia during the Rwandan genocide. None of these refugees were hurt or killed during the attacks.
