Over the past 10 years, Ugandan musicians have bestowed upon their fans not only some of the most creative and engaging music but an ample amount of bona fide hits mainly taking up the afro-beat, hip-hop, reggae and dance hall genres.

2019 was highlighted by various achievements with our very own Eddy Kenzo scooping the Best Entertainer of the year award at Africa Entertainment Awards in the US.

The world was also introduced to Sheebah Karungi, Alvin Kizz, Fik Fameica, and King Saha through international collabos and reality show Coke Studio Africa.

We take you through 30 of 2019’s greatest Ugandan hits as ranked by our music analysts here at The Ugandan Wire.

Parte After Parte – BigTril

2019 was Big Tril’s year and there was no way he wasn’t going top this chart. The part time radio presenter popularized Pastor Martin Ssempa’s words in his infamous interview on NBS with gay rights activist Pepe Julian Onzima and like they say, the rest became history.

The song became an anthem in Uganda and all over Africa. American celebrity couple Cardi B and Offset were also taken by storm after listening to the song and they uploaded the a video dancing to it.

Boom Party – Cindy

“The King herself”, self proclaimed dance hall king has as usual had a successful year but not devoid of scandal. Earlier, mid 2019 she was involved in an exchange of words with fellow artist Sheebah Karungi who was the basis of her hit “Copicat.” She later released ‘Boss’, however, it is Boom Party that got everybody in clubs allover Africa on their feet. Just like Capt. Dolla’s ‘Emesse’ Boom Party’s message will definitely amuse you.

Wire Wire – Bebe Cool

Undoubtedly, Bebe Cool has been the most hardworking musician of 2019 releasing various hits accompanied with beautiful videos, four of those shot in the States. Wire Wire hit the sound waves as a storm in that everyone who criticized Bebe for his foul comments directed at singer-gone politician Bobi Wine, could be seen nodding in appreciation of the masterpiece. We are hopeful that the Gagamel boss will not cease fire this year.

Ebango – Rickman

The Sweden based singer and professional footballer, Derrick Ddungu alias Rickman Manrick, first hit the Ugandan scene with “Nakki” which was really a club banger but hit the airwaves once again with Ebango, a song that has gone ahead to remind Ugandans that “abasummer tebatude”.
Produced by Atin Pro, Ebango is a top song.

Omu Bwati – Fik Fameica ft Patoranking

After his horrendous concert dubbed “My Journey” in 2018 at Kyadondo Rugby Club, everyone thought it was the end of the onstage sensation Fik Fameica, but as a man of character and courage, he managed to get himself together and bounced back like he hadn’t fallen. Despite being in the shadow of new artists like John Blaq and Grenade, Fik crossed borders and collaborated with Africa’s finest Patoranking. The song “Omu Bwati” was produced by Atin. The video was shot by Sasha Vybz in Lagos which reminded Ugandans that “Fresh Bwoy” was here to stay.
