24 year old presidential aspirant, John Katumba, who is also the youngest candidate seeking to unseat President Yoweri Museveni was a no show yesterday for his scheduled campaign.
According to the electoral commission campaign schedule, Katumba was scheduled to campaign in Kiryandongo and Oyam districts before proceeding to Nwoya on Tuesday 10th November 2020.
Eager residents who included boda boda riders and market vendors that had awaited to hear from the ambitious 24-year old and journalists from different radios and media houses that were present to capture the event were left in dismay when the candidate did not show up for his campaign.
Silas Wanjala, Katumba’s aide told journalists that the campaign entourage would not deliver the candidate due to inescapable challenges.
Katumba, for reasons he could not reveal, confirmed that he could not be in Nwoya as expected by his supporters and journalists.
He continued and told journalists to deliver his message to the people of Acholi despite his failure to physically be there to deliver it himself.
He reiterated via a phone call some of the things his government intends to do once he is elected. Among these, he mentioned the construction of more schools to boost literacy levels, health centers and an urban city for the Acholi community.
Katumba is scheduled to campaign in Nebbi, Zombo and Arua districts on Wednesday 11th November 2020.
“This is our campaign line up. Nebbi here we come!! I can’t wait to share my thoughts for the nation with all of you,” he shared in a tweet on Wednesday morning.
Whether he will traverse the three districts is a question to be answered as the day goes by. Each of the aspiring candidates is expected to visit 146 districts across Uganda for campaigns in the time that remains to the polling dates next year.
