The National Unity Platform (NUP), presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu alias Bobi Wine was today in Namisindwa District in the Central Region of Uganda on his campaign trail.
Bobi Wine revealed that his new medical team and security teams were blocked and some vehicles of the media impounded. He claimed through his social media that the security officers insisted that he goes to the campaign grounds alone.
“After imprisoning our entire campaign team, today, they blocked the new medical and security teams and impounded the cars. They said I must go to the campaign alone. The people are saying something. This is a revolution. They thought that would affect the support we have form the people,” he revealed through his social media with photos from the scenes in Namisindwa.
The NUP presidential candidate had posted photos of his entourage encountering a roadblock as he was on his way to Namisindwa this morning.
Bobi Wine later proceeded to pass through Mbale City where police blocked him from accessing the the main roads, diverting him to the outskirts of the town to prevent crowds.
This was enforced with tear gas and bullets. However, this as Bobi revealed through his social media, did not prevent the crowds from following him.
“And then we passed by Mbale, just passed by. We did not pass in town because police and military blocked the roads and unleashed untold amounts of tear gas. However, this is what the people in the outskirts of Mbale were saying today,” Bobi Wine posted.
The blockages follow the Electoral Commission’s directive to Bobi Wine instructing him to reduce the number of cars in his convoy, 7 of which, as spotted today on his way to Namisindwa are police and military cars that follow him to his campaign grounds.
