President Museveni has paid a visit to workers at the Nalubaale Power Station, otherwise known as the Owen Falls Dam, that are working to get rid of the floating island that recently caused a nationwide blackout.

Teams from the Ministry of Fisheries, the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) and the Uganda National Roads Authority (UNRA) have been working to dispose off the floating island that was headed for the turbines.

There was a nationwide power outage on April 14th just minutes before a presidential address, and Umeme quickly attributed it to ‘technical problems’ at the power station.

“About the current nearly countrywide loadshedding, it’s a technical problem at Owen Falls Dam caused by water-weeds affecting turbines. Engineers working to fix it. Let’s be patient.” State House Senior Press Secretary tweeted that day.

Before the Island was carried off.

The floating island, according to the Uganda Electricity Generation Company Ltd (UEGCL), has been anchored at the Jinja Pier site and it awaits disposal.

Final stages of carrying it off.

“Sighs of relief after the floating island that was headed for Nalubaale PS has been anchored to the shores at Jinja Pier site where H.E Kaguta Museveni had a glimpse of it. Teams from, UPDF, Ministry of Fisheries & UNRA are assembling equipment to dismantle & dispose it off.” UEGCL tweeted.
