The National Drug Authority (NDA) has today approved COVIDEX, a local herbal medicine as a supporting treatment for viral infections including COVID-19, this website has learned.

The drug that was made by Mbarara University of Science and Technology (MUST) scientists led by Prof Patrick Ogwang, has already filled up drug stores and is selling out quickly and in large quantities.

Addressing journalists at the Uganda Media Center, the NDA Executive Director, David Nahamya has said that after rigorous assessment and inspection of the factory manufacturing this COVIDEX, they have approved its use for treatment of viral infections.

Nahamya quickly added that COVIDEX does not cure COVID-19 but it can supplement the core medication being administered on COVID patients.
