The Ministry of Health have confirmed that some 240 Ugandans have so far recovered from the highly infectious novel coronavirus.

In a press release of Sunday June 14th, the Ministry, while announcing 11 new COVID-19 positive cases, revealed that a total of 240 Ugandans have so far recovered from the virus across the nation.

Lira Regional Referral Hospital discharged all 20 patients that had been admitted at the hospital, positive for COVID-19 and some 13 others were discharged from Jinja Regional Referral Hospital.

“They were successfully treated and have since tested negative twice for COVID-19. The Lira Hospital discharge was overseen by Hon. Joyce Moriku Kaducu.” The Ministry told our reporter.

The Minister of Health, Dr Jane Ruth Aceng, has previously warned that the country may be forced to go back into lockdown to avoid going into phase 4 of the infections and avoid mass deaths.

According to her, if Ugandans don’t follow the set guidelines like wearing of masks and regualr sanitizing, the infection rate may escalate and the hospitals won’t be able to handle the infections.

The government has already kicked off the supply of free masks to citizens and they began with boarder districts. The masks project will cost the government approximately Shs 80Bn.
