Mityana Police Bosses Transferred After Attack on Mbogo Clan
Share on FacebookShare on TwitterShare on WhatsApp

Over the weekend, the Mbogo Clan Chiefs who were attending a thanks giving ceremony for their leader Gajuule Kayiira Kasibante were dispersed after being teargassed when they gathered at Magulu in Zigotti town on Saturday.

Apparently the police commanders for that region have started yielding from their acts as the saying goes, “What goes around comes around”.

The Inspector General of Police (IGP) Martin Okoth Ochola has transferred two major commanders despite the apologies they allegedly issued to the Police and the Buganda Kingdom.

One who has been Regional Police Commander (RPC) for Wamala region that constitutes Mityana, Mr. Bob Kagarura has been transferred to Bukedi North and his counterpart the Mityana District Police Commander (DPC) Alex Mwine has been sent to Hoima.

Superintendent of Police Martin Okoyo from Hoima has been appointed the new District Police Commander (DPC) for Mityana.

The incident (attack on the cultural gathering) brought up several demonstrations by different staunch groups of Baganda, which are attributed to these changes.

On Wednesday, a Police delegation led by the AIGP Asan Kasingye, the Chief Political Commissar, apologised to Buganda Kingdom and the religious leaders.

Their transfer comes after the Katikiro Charles Peter Mayiga asked Police to punish the responsible officers for the regrettable incident.

RPC Kagarura and DPC Mwine are not new to controversy as Mityana Municipality MP Francis Zaake Butebi accuses them of torture and beatings when they arrested him for distributing food during the COVID-19 lockdown.
