The Ugandan Wire has learnt that Makerere University through its department of Infectious Disease Institute (IDI) is set to get support from one of its partners which is United States Center for Disease Control and Prevention and Resolve to Save Lives, an international non-governmental organization to lay strategies on how they can fight the spread of the deadly coronavirus in Uganda.
Basing on the statement from Makerere University, the Uganda’s model University is willing to conduct clinical research for vaccines and therapeutics of any outbreak.
“IDI is supporting implementation of national preparedness plans for the 2019nCoV including adaptation of international guidelines to local context through IDI and our partners we have capabilities to conduct clinical research for vaccines and therapeutics prior to or during outbreaks. We remain committed to enhance health systems and supportive towards emerging infectious diseases.” Makerere says in a statement.
The Virus that started in the province of Hubei which later spread to Wuhan province in China has so far killed 1,486 people with 65,213 confirmed to be having the Virus.
The recent case was heard from Egypt which marked to be the first victim of the virus on the African Continent.
