The latest reaching us is that Uganda Members of Parliament (MPs) shall have to undergo testing for coronavirus (COVID-19) after one of their own, Hon. Hellen Kahunde tested positive for the virus.

According to preliminary reports, Ms Kahunde, the Woman MP representing Kiryandongo District of Bunyoro, recently got in contact with a relative from abroad that had been quarantined after arrival.

A source privy to this website confirmed that Kahunde is currently admitted at Mulago National Referral Hospital after she felt uwell and decided to test for coronavirus and the results came out negative.

Rt. Hon. Rebecca Kadaga, the Speaker of Parliament has already announced that the institution will oversee mass testing starting tomorrow (Thursday 15th July, 2020).

“The activity will begin in the morning. We shall first screen the Members of Parliament and then the parliamentary staff later.” Kadaga said.

Ms Kahunde becomes the first law maker to test positive for the virus and she comes only a few weeks after the Prime Minister Dr. Ruhakana Rugunda put himself under isolation amid fears that members of his taskforce had tested positive.

Speaker Kadaga last evening demanded that government calls off the COVID-19 lockdown insisting that measures be put in place to enable the population to “live with the virus.”
