President Museveni has expressed disappointment in Members of Parliament (MPs) for appropriating themselves an amount to a tune of 10Bn shillings for their ‘efforts’ in fighting the spread of COVID-19.

In his address to the nation, on Tuesday night (28th April, 2020), President Museveni said it is immoral for the MPs to award themselves money in a crisis but refused to thoroughly comment on the matter because it is before courts of law.

Each MP has already received Shs 20M on their accounts as COVID-19 facilitation, a controversial allocation that saw Ntungamo Municipality MP Gerald Karuhanga running to court to in a futile attempt to stop the transaction.

Some MPs like Kyadondo East MP, Bobi Wine and Mityana Municipality MP Francis Zzake have since refused the money while others like Kiira Municipality MP Ssemujju Nganda and Budadiri West MP Nandala Mafabi have donated the money to their constituents.

In his nation address, Museveni thanked Ugandans for positive attitude towards the fight against COVID-19 and said the government would study the decision to finally open up the country.

The lockdown, now on the 14th day, is going to end after a total 21 days on May 5th, 2020 and government hasn’t come out to decide the way forward after that.
