The incumbent and six-time presidential candidate Yoweri Tibuhaburwa Kaguta Museveni has come out to reinforce his image as the strongest candidate in the 2020-2021 elections.
Museveni made these statements while addressing a select group of party leaders for the Lango-sub region at Olili Primary School in Apac district yesterday 11th November 2020 during his campaigns.
According to Museveni, but for the COVID-19 situation, no other political party or presidential candidate would have attracted huge crowds like the NRM.
He also confirmed that the NRM has decided to carry out house-to-house campaigning to mobilize and engage with its voters saying this is a safer method compared to rallies.
“If it was safe, there would be rallies and nobody would have bigger rallies than the NRM but we care about your safety. Don’t join these enemy groups forming crowds that put people in danger. This bankruptcy of calling people in such dangerous times is criminal and we are going to deal with these people,” he said.
He continued to re-assure his supporters that he will not be tempted into conducting public rallies or hold processions because it would put the public at risk of catching the deadly virus which has already claimed hundreds of lives in Uganda.
The president, who is conducting his campaign at the sub-region level has been commended by many political analysts and observers for his strict adherence to the Standard Operating Procedures (SoPs) issued by the Electoral Commission and the Ministry of Health.
The incumbent has been meeting groups of not more than 200 NRM leaders in the areas where he has been campaigning.
Speaking on the compensation for cattle for the people in Acholi, Lango and Teso sub-regions, the president said the government will raise the money for compensation to 50 billion shillings per sub-region so that ‘the matter is resolved once and for all’.
