Prof. Mwambutsya Ndebesa, a Lecturer at Makerere University’s College of Humanities and Social Sciences (CHUSS) has rapped government for blaming Citizens for the surge in the COVID-19 spread and conveniently ignoring their own contributions to the spread.
Using his social media channels, Prof. Ndebesa said that it has become convenient for government to blame citizens in Uganda for the surge of COVID-19 with no mention of state weaknesses at all.
“If the state can not accept it’s faults and work on them we are doomed. How come all manner of variants of COVID-19 are found in Uganda? The Indian, the South African, the Chinese, the British, the Nigerian etc? Where was the state before all these variants entered the country?” He pondered.
The Professor blamed the state for failing in their duty to check the borders and consequently letting the country get all these variants.
“Our sports people who went to France after testing twice here in Uganda and declared negative were found positive when tested in France and barred from participating in the games. Yesterday (June 21) we were told two of our Olympic games sports people who went to Tokyo after testing negative for COVID-19 here were found positive in Japan. Who can now trust our testing capacities in Uganda?” He further wondered.
He questioned whether the testing fault is with the machines or the people who use them.
“Isn’t it possible that in Uganda we have been letting into the country COVID-19 positive people because of faulty results and that is why all manner of variants are here and it explains the surge? Is this false results phenomenon a weakness of society or the State?” He concluded.
