The Internal Affairs Minister Jeje Odongo today presented a list of 177 considered to have been missing in what many describe as “Kidnaps”. The Minister was before Parliament as demanded by the speaker a few sessions ago so as to clear the air regarding the security operations.

On Wednesday, the National Unity Platform (NUP) took it upon themselves to address the public outcry regarding missing individuals. NUP’s list included over 400 victims while the government’s accountability is for barely half the opposition’s count.

“Today I am presenting to you a list of 177 clearly identifying the person, the date when the person was arrested, the place where the person was arrested from, the reason why the person was arrested and the case management history,”Odongo stated

He went on to elaborate that 43 of the arrested were associated with the November riots while the 156 were found in possession of military stores and others were apprehended while in meetings planning post-election violence.

Most of the suspects in captivity are NUP pillars whom the government deemed dangerous as far as political stability is concerned in both pre and post election times.

“Six persons were released on police bond. ln conclusion, going forward, l would like to inform the house and the general public that a copy of this list is at police headquarters with the office of the Chief Political Commissar. The public is encouraged to check with that office the whereabouts of their missing persons and to get permission to visit them,” he said.

The arrests saga has headlined the news for quite sometime and a lot is still latent regarding the matter. With the speaker’s request to all legislators to avail a compilation of missing individuals in their respective constituencies, the list becomes increasingly difficult to comprehend.
