Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu alias Bobi Wine the Presidential flagbearer for the National Unity Platform (NUP) has decried a Police raid conducted today morning by the military on the offices of his party in Kamwokya, Kampala.
Kyagulanyi, the current Member of Parliament (MP) for Kyadondo East declared that he would compete for presidency against President Museveni and try to end his 35 year old grip on power.
While addressing the matter on his social media platforms, Hon. Kyagulanyi said the partisanship of the security forces ahead of the 2021 Presidential and General Elections is stinking.
“The military and police just raided our head office in Kamwokya. They have broken into offices and taken away valuable documents and other items. Some comrades have been injured. The partisanship of security agencies ahead of the election is stinking.” Bobi Wine tweeted.
According to insider sources within the NUP, the Police has taken away People Power signature red berets, shirts and documents and even broken the CCTV camera system that is connected at the head offices.
“It’s interesting what fear does to people. It causes them to panic and do despicable things. Uganda’s regime is in fear, it’s scared of Ugandans who are hungry for change, but whatever evil they do only emboldens us. Nothing, and I mean nothing, can stop an idea whose time has come!” Joel Ssenyonyi, the NUP spokesperson said.
Nubian Lee, a close confidant of Kyagulanyi has told the website that tens of supporters of the NUP who were wearing red People Power berets were bundled into Police trucks and whisked away to an unknown destination.
As soon as the Police left the NUP premises, the People Power team set out to making an assessment of what had been ‘stolen in broad daylight.’
“I have been informed that most of our forms with signatures for nominations have been taken away! They have also taken 23 million shillings, part of which was meant to facilitate our parliamentary candidates with nomination fees.” Bobi Wine said.
The NUP Leader further said that the Police took away with branding materials including posters, banners, berets, t-shirts, pens, notebooks, etc.
“I have also been informed that so many of our people who are selling NUP branding materials in town are being arrested with reckless abandon. Instead of weakening us comrades, let these actions strengthen us and increase our resolve. Seeing the hundreds of soldiers and police officers deployed today is evidence that the dictator is so scared of us. We are not giving up. We are not giving in!” Bobi Wine ended.
The Uganda Police has not released any statement yet about the raid.
