Following the recent presidential address, boda bodas were allowed to resume work after a long period of being confined at their homes due to the lock down, Boda Boda riders in Kampala have been issued with working guidelines within the city.

A number of guidelines/standard operating procedures (SOPs) to be followed were issued by the government through the Ministry of Works and Transport and Ministry of Security which all boda bodas nation wide are supposed to follow.

Among the measures included registering each passenger indicating his or her details like the name, phone number, address among others and as well putting on face masks.

Earlier this morning, many boda bodas have been seen around the city and on various roads of Kampala very excited for having resumed work though spelt how inconvenienced with the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA) directives in which boda bodas have been banned from entering the city centre.

Yesterday KCCA released a document of gazetted areas in which boda bodas are expected to operate from, each area has stages and a unique reference code which will be its name.

Some of the boda boda free zone areas mentioned included Jinja Road – Kitgum, Watoto Church – Bombo Road, Luggogo by pass, Kafumbe Mukasa -Kisenyi.

Those coming from Gaba, Kabalagala are expected to stop in Nsambya. Many boda boda riders are not happy with this as most of the  clients are within the city center, many people with cargo are found in the down town therefore passengers are going to find it hard to transport their goods too.

According to KCCA, this has been done to reduce on the congestion in the city which is caused by boda bodas and it’s also an opportunity to clearly work on the good cause of improving the city.
