Lawyers representing murder suspects Mathew Kanyamunyu and Cynthia Munwangari have abandoned the case after filing written submissions in an application seeking to pursue negotiations that are intended to have the matter settled out of Court, The Ugandan Wire has learned.

Presiding High Court Judge Stephen Mubiru heard the matter yesterday morning that  Kanyamunyu’s three  Lawyers McDusman Kabega, Caleb Alaka and Ochieng Evans  had abandoned him in the middle of his pending criminal trial.

Prosecution’s Jonathan Muwaganya and the accused persons have informed Court that since the last adjournment on 27th October, 2020 the Defence Lawyers  have neither met them in preparation of this trial nor been returning their calls.

Muwanganya  says he had called 2 witnesses to testify today over the brutal murder of social worker Kenneth Akena that occurred in November 2016 after Akena reportedly knocked Kanyamunyu’s car at Lugogo in Kampala.

Justice Mubiru has now given Kanyamunyu and his girlfriend this weekend to either get new Lawyers, make efforts to contact their former Lawyers or notify the Court’s  Registrar to get them a Government paid Lawyer  but hearing of the case has to continue on Monday 9th November, 2020.
