British Prime Minister and Conservative Party leader Boris Johnson has tested positive for the novel coronavirus, otherwise known as COVID-19.
PM Johnson, according to a statement he released on his social media, has been experiencing mild symptoms of the virus until he tested today and came out positive.
“Over the last 24 hours I have developed mild symptoms and tested positive for coronavirus.” the Prime Minister tweeted.
He also revealed that he is currently self isolating and urged the public to stay indoors so as to control the virus.
“I am now self-isolating, but I will continue to lead the government’s response via video-conference as we fight this virus. Together we will beat this.” He further tweeted.
The Prime Minister joins Prince Charles, the 71 year old British Kingdom heir as the other high profile leader in UK to test positive for COVID-19.
For most people, the coronavirus causes only mild or moderate symptoms, such as fever and cough. For some, especially older adults and people with existing health problems, it can cause more severe illness, including pneumonia, according to health experts.
