The National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential candidate, Robert Kyagulanyi alias Bobi Wine has come out to refute the death toll numbers of the protests that followed after his arrest while speaking to on NTV today morning.

Referring to last night’s address of the incumbent Yoweri Museveni where the president revealed that the death toll stands at 54, Kyagulanyi said that these numbers are far from accurate.

“I disagree with the numbers that President Museveni presented and you can’t blame me, he lied about the numbers of those killed in the Kasese massacre and other areas. We know that more than 200 people were murdered,” Kyagulanyi said.

Museveni yesterday said that 54 have been reported according to official reports from Police, with 32 being directly involved in the protests while the rest were only hit by stray bullets without their involvement in the protests.

When asked about the claims by Museveni that holding rallies meant that he is an irresponsible leader who doesn’t care about Ugandans’ lives and safety, Bobi Wine said that the people willingly come to his rallies because they want change.

“I want to make it categorically clearer that we don’t invite the people to come and congregate. They are yearning for freedom, they are yearning for change and they are yearning for our message which has been blocked for a long time. It is what drives the droves of people to come to listen to us and we speak to them. Most of all, I want to assert it that the irresponsible leader is the leader who orders for the mass murder of Ugandans and unarmed citizens, being shot at by the Police and Military, and that is Yoweri Museveni,” Bobi Wine added.

Bobi Wine said that Museveni cannot contain freedom and justice claiming that these two are untouchable.

“I am not untouchable, and Museveni should not reduce this to Kyagulanyi. Let us talk about justice, Museveni should know that justice is untouchable, freedom is untouchable. You cannot block freedom. It is not about me, it is about justice,” he said.
