As many continued to question Presidential aspirant Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu alias Bobi Wine’s academic credentials and date of birth, the Kyadondo East legislator took to the media to clear the air on different queries posed on his date of birth and academic qualifications.
It should be remembered that maverick city lawyer Hassan Male Mabirizi moved to block the possible nomination of the pop-star-turned politician saying he is a dishonest person based on the inconsistency of information appearing on the different documents he held.
Mabirizi specifically questioned why several documents including UNEB pass slips and transcripts from Makerere University indicated that Kyagulanyi was born in 1980 yet his passport and information at Parliament indicate that he was born in 1982.
While explaining the inconsistency in his age, Kyagulanyi noted that his year of birth was changed in 1982 to enable him sit for primary leaving examination. According to his account, in 1992, he was in primary six at St Aloysius Byukalagi Primary School but his late father, J.W. Ssentamu thought he was bright enough to do PLE that year.
“I registered and sat for PLE in 1992. My father was advised that for my age to match with that of other candidates, he needed to increase my age by two years. That is when my year of birth was altered from 1982 to 1980. Despite sitting PLE without studying P.7, I passed my exams well.” says Bobi Wine giving reference to several televised interviews by his late father and brothers.
Kyagulanyi however, adds that he couldn’t correct the ‘anomaly’ by that time and so he carried through his education documents only to swear an affidavit in 2000 before he acquired his first passport.
“I remember swearing an affidavit to reflect this change, which is what was required at the passport office at the time. All my records outside the academic documents since 2000 bear my true year of birth.” he adds.
Kyagulanyi notes that one of his biological brothers, Julius Walakira, was born on 0ctober 23, 1979 and with that fact, there is no way how their mother could give birth to Kyagulanyi barely four months after.
Elsewhere city lawyer Muwada Nkunyingi also petitioned the Electoral Commission (EC) to be furnished with President Museveni’s academic papers citing the fact that there is a likelihood that Electoral Commission has never paid attention to Museveni’s academic papers.
