Julius Kateregga of Makerere University, Jonathan Tundulu of Kyambogo University, Frank Ssendyowa of Muteesa I Royal University, Patrick Mbogga of Nkozi University and Roy Ssemboga of Makerere are drying tears after People Power, a movement they have fought for since 2017, denied them tickets to run in 2021.
Kateregga was seeking the Kawempe South Lord Councillor LCV slot, Tundulu had targeted Banda-Ntinda-Nabisunsa on Councillor LCV too while Mbogga and Ssendyowa were eyeing Makindye-Ssabagabo and Muvuuma respectively.
People Power Head of Institutions and 82nd Guild President of Makerere University Roy Ssemboga is also, according to our NUP vetting insiders on the sidelines of being trashed in favor of Bashir Kazibwe a former presenter at NBS TV.
Ssemboga, who campaigned for Bobi Wine in Kyadondo East and has been on his side ever since, thought he would have a smooth ride in the election as long as his Principal (Bobi Wine) is by his side but he is seemingly most unlikely to be.
The other candidates that may face the NUP axe ahead of the elections are controversial Kawempe North Lord Councillor LCV Mohammed Ssegirinya who is now seeking to represent Kawempe North in Parliament.
“Ssegirinya doesn’t know English. He may not ably articulate our issues and manifesto.” A source inside the vetting committee told The Ugandan Wire.
