The United States is imposing travel restrictions on Ugandan officials that they believe were responsible for undermining democracy in the recently concluded Presidential and General Elections. Kampala City Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago is in a stable condition and responding to treatment in a Kenyan Hospital, his deputy Doreen Nyanjura has disclosed. Nyanjura has spoken about the Lord Mayor’s health following “serious health complications” that kept his supporters worried. Kazire Health Products, a herbal beverages company in Uganda and some 281 other organisations and individuals have been listed among what Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) describes as the top tax evaders in Uganda. The public notice containing the names of the tax defaulters also threatens prosecution against the listed taxpayers should they fail to clear their tax obligations with the tax body. The High Court in Kampala has condemned the ruling National Resistance Movement (NRM) party for declining to front a flag-bearer for Mawogola North Constituency in Parliament. This follows a case filed by Aine Godfrey Kaguta Sodo accusing his Party of refusing to endorse him as its official candidate for that Constituency.
