The Electoral Commission (EC) has today issued a revised Presidential Campaign programme following the arrest of Bobi Wine and Amuriat Oboi and the protests that ensued after that. The Minister of Security, General Elly Tumwine has said that the security authorities are assessing and examining the violent events that took place this Wednesday and Thursday following the arrest of National Unity Platform presidential candidate Robert Kyagulanyi Sentamu alias Bobi Wine. Uganda has recorded its highest number of COVID-19 deaths in a single day after 10 people were reported to have died of the disease on Friday by the Ministry of Health. This brings the tally number of deaths in Uganda, as of November 21st 2020, to 168 recorded deaths. The country recorded its first death from the Corona virus on the Thursday of July 23rd 2020 when it still had only 1,079 cases.  As of today, Uganda has a cumulative number of 17,431 COVID-19 cases after the health ministry reported 283 new COVID-19 cases on Friday. The President on Friday took time off his campaign trail to open Hotel Africana in Moroto town, Moroto district, Karamoja sub-region. President Museveni has this afternoon broken his silence and spoken about the political unrest that erupted in the country following the arrest of National Unity Platform (NUP) presidential aspirant, Robert Kyagulanyi. Following Kyagulanyi’s arrest by Police for violating COVID-19 guidelines and detention at Nalufenya police station in Jinja, protests erupted in Kampala and later spread to several parts of the country, especially town centers. Uganda’s Electoral Commission (EC) has awarded contracts to companies in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) South Africa and the United Kingdom (UK) to print ballot papers for next year’s elections.
