According to reports from the Ministry of Health (MoH), 547 Ugandans have so far recovered from the novel coronavirus, otherwise known as COVID-19. Uganda’s total COVID-19 confirmed cases stand at 770 although there are more people admitted in Ugandan Isolation Centres and Hospitals that are not part of the 770 since they’re not Ugandans. President Museveni directed that the records only show Ugandan cases and the foreigners (especially truck drivers) are admitted and treated without adding them to the tally or sent back to their home countries for medical attention. The government of Uganda has decided to open public transport after more than two months under suspension. The president, while addressing the nation, declared that government had agreed to re-open public trannsport but only under restricted measures. “We shall allow public transport to operate again but under restrictions. The buses, taxis and mini-buses will start operating.” Museveni said. The president emphasised that while in operation, the public transporters must carry only passengers with masks that will be supplied by the government within 14 days. According to Civil Society Budget Advocacy Group (CSBAG), only about sixty three (63) Members of Parliament (MPs) have so far returned the Shs20m they received as COVID-19 facilitation. The national legislature has a total of 458 MPs altogether, but as of May 8th 2020, Shs1,249,000,000 had been returned and Shs8,751,000,000 was yet to be returned.
