The United States administration has lifted sanctions against the International Criminal Court (ICC) Chief Prosecutor Fatou Bensouda; sanctions that had been imposed by the Trump administration. The sanctions were slapped on Ms Bensouda when the ICC sought to investigate allegations of war crimes in Afghanistan by the US and similar allegations by US-ally Israel in Palestinian territories. While announcing the development, the US Secretary of State Antony Blinken said that the sanctions “were inappropriate and ineffective.” Mr. Blinken also called for closer coorperation with the ICC. City Lawyers Oscar Kihika and Jude Byamukama have today morning weighed in on the Constitutional Court ruling involving deceased lawyer, Bob Kasango who filed a petition challenging the appointment of Justice Mike Chibita as the Director of Public Prosecutions without resigning his job as a judge. Police in Uganda has identified a woman who was filmed brutalizing a five-year-old child in a video making rounds on social media. The abuser has been identified as Patience Uwimana of age 25 who was recently released from Kisoro Prison for attempted murder. According to preliminary reports, the abuse took place at Bwuuma Zone, Kyazanga Trading Centre, in Lwengo District. Police Spokesperson Fred Enanga has said that the Forces will vacate National Unity Platform (NUP) president, Robert Kyagulanyi’s home as directed by court, adding however, that they will continue surveillance on him. The High Court in Kampala earlier on Monday ruled that it is illegal for security including the army and police personnel to continue confining Kyagulanyi at his home indefinitely and directed their withdrawal.
