African political opposition figure heads including Uganda’s Dr. Kizza Besigye and Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu have congratulated Zambia’s President-elect Hakainde Hichilema. Hichilema was on Monday declared the winner of the presidential elections in his sixth attempt at the seat. He polled 2,810,777 votes against the incumbent Edgar Lungu’s 1,814,201 votes. Team Uganda, consisting of countrymen and women that took part in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics have arrived back in the country to heroes’ welcome. The Uganda People’s Defense Forces (UPDF) has retired a total of 618 officers including 14 Generals, according to the UPDF Spokesperson Brig. Gen. Flavia Byekwaso, The Ugandan Wire has confirmed. The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has banned entry of passengers travelling from 16 countries in the world including Uganda over the coronavirus threat. The other 15 countries whose passengers have been banned are Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Democratic Republic of Congo, India, Indonesia, Liberia, Namibia, Nepal, Nigeria, Pakistan, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Sri Lanka, Vietnam, and Zambia. “The current development on the COVID-19 pandemic leads the UAE to impose new flight and passengers’ restrictions.
