Team Uganda, consisting of countrymen and women that took part in the 2020 Tokyo Olympics have arrived back in the country to heroes’ welcome.
The team of 25 athletes impressed at the Olympics by bagging a total of four medals; 2 Gold, 1 Silver and 1 Bronze.
Joshua Cheptegei, the most pronounced among the athletes won Gold in the 5000m race and Silver in the 10000m race. Peruth Chemutai won Gold in the 3000m steeplechase and achieved the honour of being the first Ugandan Female Olympics gold medalist.
Jacob Kiplimo won Bronze in the 10000m race, and accompanied Cheptegei to the podium. Their other running mate, Oscar Chelimo competed with them in two races but didn’t achieve top honours.
The team were received at Entebbe International Airport by officials from the Ministry of Tourism and the Uganda Tourism Board (UTB).
