Ugandans online have had a field day on social media platforms mocking embattled State Minister for Privatisation, Hon. Evelyn Anite after she came out to say that her life was in danger and that a certain “mafia cartel” in government are plotting to kill her.
This is in the wake of news by online broadcaster that the Minister travelled to Mauritius in a secret journey to meet with a Mauritius Telecom Company over Uganda Telecom (UTL) affairs, a report she first denied and claimed it was fake news only to accept that she went there later.
“I have no relationship with Mauritius Telecom Company. The report by financial intelligence is what prompted me to support them. My name has been tarnished but I will continue fighting for the truth.” Anite told the press.
“The plan by the mafias is to take Anite out of the picture, I might die but history will judge them. You know the mafias, they are the ones who have been blocking the audit,” she said.
She, however, said that she would not stop fighting to save UTL or exposing bad characters in government.
“These mafias are not jokers. Go and ask Abiriga. I will die with my mouth open, I will die while shouting the mafias are coming, until they take me down. They are tapping my phone, I hear their voices when I pick up my phone.”
Last week, a whistle blower petitioned the IGG asking for investigations into an alleged secret booking from US via France to Mauritius by Ms Anite to meet investors who want to take over UTL.
Anite is infamously known for telling off Ugandans opposed to the removal of the age limit in 2017 during the “Togikwatako” debate that they can go and hung because the NRM has the “majje” (army). Now the same Ugandans have asked her where the army is, as she cries out over her life.
