The National Resistance Movement (NRM) has confirmed that they have lined up some 20 lawyers to handle electoral petitions arising from the recently concluded party flagbearer primaries.
Speaking during the weekly NBS TV Frontline show, Government Spokesperson Ofwono Opondo – a member of the ruling party himself, said the party is well positioned to handle the alleged malpractice that was cited in the primary elections.
“The last time I checked, there were close to 200 petitions out of the NRM Primaries.” Ofwono Opondo said.
“We have a team of about 20 lawyers who are working to harmonise the petitions. While there were cases of violence, they were in extremely few areas.” He added.
The Gov’t Spokesperson, further said that cases of violence were few and should not be used to define the state of the party that he maintains is peaceful and for the people.
