On Thursday, a team from the Ministry of Education and Sports led by the state minister for higher education Hon John Chrysostom Muyingo visited Kasese district to assess the extent of damage caused by floods on education institutions when River Nyamwamba busted it’s banks in May.
While addressing the journalists, minister Muyingo said that they are waiting for guidance from the ministry of health to give them a greenlight on re-opening of academic institutions to guarantee safety of learners.
“For us we are ready to open schools as soon as the minister of health and her team tells us the life of our children is safe. The responsibility of any government is to ensure that Ugandans are safe and healthy,” he said.
He added that for now, the ministry will remain supporting the new e-learning tactics accepted by the government to keep learners engaged during the COVID-19 lockdown.
