At about 10:00am this morning, locals from Namutumba District converged at Bugobi Town Council in protest over the results that the returning officers led by their chairman Bovan Magobi announced.

They locals contend that the incumbent, who is the Butiki Constituency Member of Parliament (MP) was unfairly thrown out of the party primaries by just an announcement that was not in line with what came out of the common vote.

The incumbent who allegedly scooped more than 30,000 votes was announced second over his opponent Dr. Fred Kasiisa who managed to secure just 17,000 votes.

The protesters have further threatened to get violent in case their victory isn’t given to them. It should be known that the recently concluded NRM primaries have had lots of issues ranging from murder, to fraud and then vote rigging.

The locals spent the greater part of the morning expressing disgruntlements and carrying placards suggesting that the said Magobi was bribed to declare wrong results.

It should also be put to ears that the NRM Chairperson and 2021 Presidential Flagbearer Yoweri Kaguta Museveni has threatened to put up all avenues to sort all these kinds of criminalities.

The President is currently in Mbarara (Western Uganda) where he is meeting with NRM members from across the Ankole sub-region, an area believed to have had the most electoral violence.

Former Attorney General and current Labor Minister Mwesigwa Rukutana is on remand after engaging himself in electoral violence and threatening to shoot at supporters of his competitors.
