Yesterday, Victoria University sworn in a new Chancellor, Prof. John Opuda-Asibo. An executive scholar of national and international repute, Prof Asibo is the third chancellor of the university.
“He joins the university during a very critical moment but we hope for the best because of his expertise, wide research, experience and knowledge that will maintain the university as the top private higher institution in Uganda,” the university PRO said in statement.
Prof. Asibo is a graduate with a Veterinary Medicine degree from Makerere University. He also holds a Masters Degree in Public Health and a PhD in Microbiology, Epidemiology and Public Health, both from the University of Minnessota USA.
He has gained multi- sectoral knowledge applicable in Epidemiology (Observanal and analytical), Administration, Economics, Education and Governance through his Public Health training.
The professor has also gained experience in Education, Science, Cooperation, Institutional collaboration, Negotiation, Dialogue, Grants awarding, Scientific Research, Organising and chairing meetings and he was a member of the top management committee of the Ministry of Education of Uganda.
The scientific ceremony his installation happened at Victoria University, Jinja road where he replaced Prof. Krishna N. Sharma. He has promised to work whole heartedly towards the betterment of the university and has appealed for maximum cooperation from the university stake holders.
Prof. Asibo is the first Ugandan to be appointed Chancellor of Victoria University.
