The Ministry of Health recorded some 15 new Coronavirus infections, yesterday on Friday May 22. The update brought Uganda’s total COVID-19 cases to 175.

The new infections were from the 2,106 samples that were tested for COVID-19 from the border points and the from among the community. According to the Ministry, 12 of the new cases are truck drivers while 3 cases are contacts of previously confirmed truck drivers.

“We have blocked the entry, into the country, of 23 truck drivers who tested positive at different points of entry. The number of drivers handed over since the week begun is now 168.” A source within the Ministry told our reporter.

The Health Minister, says the hand over of truck drivers is according to a directive by president Museveni. The president also instructed that the positive tests of truck drivers from other countries should not be counted on Uganda.

“The president made a directive that only truck drivers who test negative would enter the country. Drivers who test positive are handed over to their county of origin for treatment,” Minister Dr Jane Ruth Aceng said.
