Shafiq Mbogo, a fourth year student pursuing a Bachelors degree in International Business and Trade at Shenyang University in Shenyang City was found dead outside his hostel of residence on Thursday.
Initial reports indicated that he had fallen off the balcony of his hostel and died. However, the mother of the 22 year old Ugandan student who lives in United Kingdom trashed the reports saying that his son couldn’t have killed himself because she had talked to him that day and he didn’t show any signs of frustration which could compel him to take his life.
“Yes, my son is dead but the initial reports you saw are not true. My son never committed suicide and he was not at the balcony like the reports indicated. He didn’t have a reason to kill himself because I was talking to him everyday and he didn’t show me that there was anything troubling him” Ms Dorothy Wagalinda said.
She further added that she had talked to Shafiq the day he was announced dead. ” I had just talked to him that day.”
Mbogo’s brother, Isaac Newton also said that the late Shafiq wasn’t sleeping on the fourth floor in his hostel and he didn’t fall off the balcony where they say he died from.
“How does someone fall off the balcony and they don’t get fractured? Even his hood was intact, he added. Shafiq was killed. I had last talked to him on Wednesday when he was telling me to send him money to renew his visa but he didn’t show any signs of being troubled” Mr Newton said.
However, the acting ambassador to China Mr. Philip Kanyoonzi said that the embassy contacted the school administration and the security bureau who confirmed the death and said that investigations into the actual death of Mbogo are underway and the results shall be formally communicated.
Shafiq Mbogo was an old student of Hana International School. One of his old boys who preferred anonymity said that the community of Hana International School will miss him and that he sympathizes with the family and prays that God comforts them during the trying moment.
