President Yoweri Museveni and the government of Uganda have announced the fresh start of operationalization of the tourism sector after close to 7 months in quagmire.
Addressing the nation on Sunday evening, Mr. Museveni said tourists from all over the globe would be allowed into the country as long as they provide proof of testing negative, 72 hours earlier.
“The International Airport and land borders will now be opened for tourists, coming in and going out, provided they tested negative 72 hours before arrival in Uganda and provided the tour operators ensure that the tourists do not mix with the Ugandans.” Museveni said.
The airport at Entebbe has been operational but only for cargo with the passenger plans at the airport taking Ugandans in the special case category like representatives of the country at world sports summits.
Tourism, the country’s largest foreign exchange earner has been badly hit by the COVID-19 lockdown and tour operators have counted losses for the greater part of the year.
