Two People including a Kenyan National have been remanded to Kitalya Government Prison on charges of interfering with goods under customs control and making false declaration to Customs.
Anti-Corruption Court heard that in October this year Joseph Omondi a Kenyan driver and Yusuf Adupa a Ugandan Clearing Agent while transporting 37,612 litres of Gasoline worth Shs 47.9M from Kisumu to Busia, made a false declaration of a truck in transit to South Sudan through Elegu to URA but on scanning the truck water was found instead of the Premium Motor Spirit (Gasoline).
Omondi is said to have been the driver in-charge of the Vehicle conveying the altered goods while Adupa is accused of having made the false declaration at Uganda Revenue Authority Customs – Busia since he cleared the truck without first verifying what it was carrying.
They have appeared before Grade One Magistrate Abert Asiimwe and denied the charges.
They were then sent on remand until 10th December, 2020.
URA Prosecutor Diana Pridah informed Court that investigations into this case are still ongoing.
