Billionaire tech guru and founder of Twitter and payment app Square, Jack Dorsey has pledged 1Bn dollars towards the fight against the novel coronavirus.

Dorsey made the announcement on his Twitter page, citing that his donantion represents a whooping 28% of his wealth and further noting that the “needs are increasingly urgent”.

He noted that he will use the shares he owns in Square to fund the donations through the Start Small Foundation because he owns alot more there than he owns in Twitter.

“After we disarm this pandemic, the focus will shift to girl’s health and education, and UBI (Universal Basic Income).” Mr Dorsey said, in a tweet that he has since pinned on his account.

We have however learnt that the Twitter boss is not the only tech billionaire to pledge part of their wealth towards coronavirus global efforts. Mark Zuckerberg of Facebook, committed $30m on efforts to create a treatment, Amazon’s Jeff Bezos donated $100m to food banks in the US to help those struggling with hunger during this period.
