The International Crimes Division of the High Court in Kampala has issued a Production Warrant to Prisons Authorities in Luzira and Jinja as well as a hearing notice to the embattled Rwenzururu King Charles Wesley Mumbere’s Lawyers to ensure the presence of Mumbere and 201 other suspects before the High Court in Jinja on 28th December, 2020.

According to the Court’s Deputy Registrar Beatrice Stella Atingu, the Supretendant of Prisons Luzira Upper, the OC Jinja Prison, Defence Lawyer Markas Alfred together with the Prosecution Counsel – Lino Anguzu and Lillian Omara are being put on notice that the trial of the Rwenzururu King and 201 people including royal guards has been fixed for one week beginning 28th December, 2020 at the High Court in Jinja.

The hearing notice further indicates that if  no appearance is made by the said Parties; the case will be heard and decided in their absence.

Rwenzururu King Charles Wesley Mumbere, his Prime Minister Thembo Kitsumbire and his royal guards were charged and committed to the High Court to start trial over the March and November 2016 incidents in Kasese where over 100 lives were lost.

They were arrested in November 2016 following clashes between Security Forces and suspected Rwenzururu Kingdom Loyalists but since then they have never had an opportunity to say something about the allegations until 28th December, 2020 when they will do so before the pre-trial Judge Eva Luswata.

The Omusinga wa Rwenzururu and his Co-accused were indicted for murder, attempted murder, robbery and terrorism charges.
